Uggie, the canine star of silent film The Artist, is fronting a new PETA campaign encouraging the public to adopt, not buy, new pets.

Uggie himself was prevented from being placed in an animal shelter by renowned dog trainer Omar Von Muller, and the initiative aims to raise awareness of the thousands of dogs rescued from UK streets each year. Uggie follows in the footsteps of Justin Bieber and Audrina Patridge, who have previously teamed up with PETA to promote animal adoption.
